Iron Tank

Overview

The Iron Tank is a Railcraft multi-block liquid storage structure. It provides large-capacity fluid storage with a simple redstone signal valve system.

Structure

The tank consists of:

  • Wall blocks (TANK_IRON_WALL) - structural walls
  • Valve blocks (TANK_IRON_VALVE) - fluid input/output with redstone control
  • Glass blocks (GLASS) - transparent viewing panels

Available Sizes

Iron tanks support four base dimensions:

3×3 Tank

Height Capacity
4 36 blocks
5 45 blocks
6 54 blocks
7 63 blocks
8 72 blocks

5×5 Tank

Height Capacity
4 100 blocks
5 125 blocks
6 150 blocks
7 175 blocks
8 200 blocks

7×7 Tank

Height Capacity
4 196 blocks
5 245 blocks
6 294 blocks
7 343 blocks
8 392 blocks

9×9 Tank

Height Capacity
4 324 blocks
5 405 blocks
6 486 blocks
7 567 blocks
8 648 blocks

Capacity Calculation

Total Blocks = Base Area × Height
Capacity = Total Blocks × Capacity Per Block

Where Capacity Per Block = RailcraftConfig.tankPerBlockCapacity() × FluidTools.BUCKET_VOLUME

Tank Definitions

The TankDefinition.IRON defines:

  • Resistance: 20.0 explosion resistance
  • Capacity Per Block: Config-based (default 1 bucket per block)
  • Valid Wall Block: TANK_IRON_WALL
  • Valid Valve Block: TANK_IRON_VALVE

Structure Pattern

Each tank size has a specific pattern:

  • Bottom layer: Solid wall with center access
  • Middle layers: Hollow with glass panels for viewing
  • Top layer: Solid wall with optional valve position

Valves

Iron tank valves (TANK_IRON_VALVE) provide:

  • Fluid input/output connections
  • Redstone-controlled on/off
  • Fluid level comparison output

Usage

  1. Place the valve block first (will be master)
  2. Build walls outward in square formation
  3. Add glass panels at desired viewing positions
  4. Stack to desired height
  5. Complete top layer
  6. Connect fluid pipes to valve

Smelting

Iron tank walls can be smelted in a Blast Furnace:

  • Output: 4 steel nuggets per wall block
  • Slag: 1 slag output
  • Time: SMELT_TIME × 4
