Steam Turbine

Overview

The Steam Turbine is a Railcraft multi-block structure that converts steam into RF/MJ energy. It is a high-efficiency power generation system.

Structure

The turbine consists of a multi-block structure with:

  • Casing blocks - outer structural layer
  • Rotor chamber - interior space containing the turbine rotor

Dimensions

The turbine supports two axis orientations:

X-Axis Pattern

Layer Description
Bottom (Y=0) 5×4 open space
Layer 1 (Y=1) 3×2 rotor chamber (B=frame, empty=rotor area)
Layer 2 (Y=2) 3×2 with water output (W=water)
Top (Y=3) 5×4 open space

Z-Axis Pattern

Layer Description
Bottom (Y=0) 5×5 open space
Layer 1 (Y=1) 3×3×3 rotor chamber
Layer 2 (Y=2) 4×4×4 with water tank (W)
Top (Y=3) 5×5 open space

Specifications

Parameter Value
Water Output 4 mB/tick
RF Output 900 RF/tick
FE Output 900 FE/tick
IC2 Tier 3
Steam Consumption Variable (depends on load)

Energy Output

The turbine outputs to multiple energy systems:

  • RF (Redstone Flux) - 900 RF/tick
  • MJ (Buildcraft Power) - 900 MJ/tick
  • IC2 EU - Tier 3 compatible

Steam Consumption

Steam consumption scales with power output. Higher steam input = higher energy output.

Structure Pattern

The structure is defined in TileSteamTurbine with patterns:

  • Pattern 1: X-axis oriented, 5×4×4
  • Pattern 2: Z-axis oriented, 5×5×4

Usage

  1. Build the turbine casing according to the pattern
  2. Place the turbine controller block
  3. Connect steam input via fluid pipes
  4. Connect energy output cables/pipes
  5. Provide steam to generate power

Maintenance

The turbine may require periodic maintenance. The needsMaintenance() method checks turbine condition.
