Boiler

Overview

The Railcraft Boiler is a multi-block steam generation system. It converts fluid (water) and fuel (solid or fluid) into steam for use in steam engines or other steam-consuming devices.

Structure

The boiler consists of:

  • Firebox (solid or fluid fuel type) - the bottom layer where fuel is burned
  • Boiler Tank (low or high pressure) - the middle/lateral layers that contain water and steam

Component Blocks

Block Description
BOILER_FIREBOX_SOLID Firebox accepting solid fuels (coal, charcoal, etc.)
BOILER_FIREBOX_FLUID Firebox accepting fluid fuels (creosote, lava, etc.)
BOILER_TANK_PRESSURE_LOW Tank wall block for low-pressure boilers
BOILER_TANK_PRESSURE_HIGH Tank wall block for high-pressure boilers

Dimensions

Boilers support variable widths and heights:

Width Options

  • 1x1 (minimum)
  • 2x2
  • 3x3 (maximum)

Tank Height Options

  • 1 block
  • 2 blocks
  • 3 blocks
  • 4 blocks (maximum)

Pressure Tiers

Low Pressure (L)

Parameter Value
Ticks per cycle 16
Max Heat SteamConstants.MAX_HEAT_LOW
Steam per cycle 16
Water capacity per tank 4 buckets

High Pressure (H)

Parameter Value
Ticks per cycle 8
Max Heat SteamConstants.MAX_HEAT_HIGH
Steam per cycle 32
Water capacity per tank 4 buckets

Steam Production Formula

Total Tanks = Width × Width × Tank Height
Steam Capacity = Total Tanks × Steam per cycle
Water Capacity = Total Tanks × 4 buckets

Valid Patterns

All valid width/height/pressure combinations:

Width Tank Height Pressure Total Tanks Steam/Cycle Water Capacity
1 1 Low 1 16 4 buckets
1 1 High 1 32 4 buckets
2 2 Low 8 128 32 buckets
2 2 High 8 256 32 buckets
2 3 Low 12 192 48 buckets
2 3 High 12 384 48 buckets
3 2 Low 18 288 72 buckets
3 2 High 18 576 72 buckets
3 3 Low 27 432 108 buckets
3 3 High 27 864 108 buckets
3 4 Low 36 576 144 buckets
3 4 High 36 1152 144 buckets

Structure Validation

The StructureLogic checks these markers:

  • O - Must be air or non-boiler block
  • L - Must be BOILER_TANK_PRESSURE_LOW
  • H - Must be BOILER_TANK_PRESSURE_HIGH
  • F - Must match the firebox block type
  • A - Must be air (top cap)

Usage

  1. Place firebox blocks as the bottom layer
  2. Build tank walls around the firebox
  3. Fill with water via the firebox or valve blocks
  4. Add fuel to generate steam
  5. Connect steam consumers (engines, turbines) via fluid pipes
