Steam Engine - Hobby Tier
Overview
The Hobby Steam Engine (TileEngineSteamHobby) is the smallest and most basic steam-powered energy generator in Railcraft. It is designed for hobbyist/small-scale power generation.
Specifications
| Parameter | Value |
|---|---|
| Output (MJ) | 2 MJ/tick |
| Capacity | 10,000 MJ |
| Max Input | 300 MJ/tick |
| Max Extract | N/A (internal) |
| Steam/tick | Varies |
Key Features
Built-in Boiler
Unlike the Commercial and Industrial engines, the Hobby Steam Engine has a built-in miniature boiler:
- Solid fuel only (coal, charcoal, etc.)
- Does not require external boiler
- Self-contained steam generation
Tank Capacity
- Steam tank: 8 buckets (8000 mB)
- Internal water storage for boiler
Interface Implementation
Implements:
ISidedInventory- For item-based I/OITemperature- Temperature monitoringINeedsFuel- Fuel requirement trackingITileTank- Fluid tank accessISteamUser- Steam consumer interface
Boiler Logic
The hobby engine uses BoilerLogic with:
BoilerData(1, TICKS_PER_BOILER_CYCLE, ...)
- Single tank
- Standard boiler tick rate
- Solid fuel combustion
Energy Output
Energy is output via:
ISteamUserinterface for steam consumers- Internal energy storage (10,000 MJ capacity)
- Piston animation for visual feedback
Comparison with Other Engines
| Engine | Output | Boiler | Complexity |
|---|---|---|---|
| Hobby | 2 MJ/t | Built-in | Low |
| Commercial | 4 MJ/t | External | Medium |
| Industrial | 8 MJ/t | External | High |
Usage
- Place the hobby steam engine
- Add water (via bucket or pipe to tank)
- Add solid fuel (coal, charcoal) to fuel slot
- Connect energy output cables/pipes
- Engine will automatically generate power
GUI
Accessed via EnumGui.ENGINE_HOBBY:
- Water tank display
- Fuel slot
- Steam pressure indicator
- Temperature gauge
- Output energy display
Piston Animation
The hobby engine features:
- Animated piston movement
- Stage-based animation (2 stages)
- Sound effects during operation
Fuel Efficiency
Due to the small scale:
- Good for early game
- Limited output
- Requires manual fuel addition
